Dr Wee leading in contest for MCA presidency, vote count ongoing (Updated)

KUALA LUMPUR: With vote counting in the 188 divisions still ongoing, the WeeMah team consisting Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong and Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon is leading for the presidential and deputy positions in the MCA party election.

Dr Wee garnered 161 electoral votes while his rival Gan Ping Sieu has 75 votes.

The third presidential candidate, Beruas MCA Youth chairman Ngoo Teck Keong had zero votes.

For the deputy president's post, Dr Mah has garnered 152 votes, while his rival Datuk Tee Siew Kiong has 72 votes so far.

Votes from 48 out of 188 divisions nationwide have been tabulated so far.

The voter turnout rate was 66.27%.

Some 32,000 divisional delegates from 188 divisions nationwide cast their votes between 2pm and 7pm earlier.

There are 160 polling stations.

Johor tops the states with 111 electoral votes, followed by Selangor (105) and Perak (95) out of the 637 electoral votes.

Results are expected by midnight.
