KUALA LUMPUR: The turnout rate for the MCA Youth elections stands at about 40% on Saturday (Nov 3) evening.
Polling at 141 stations nationwide is between 2pm and 7pm.
There are 8,337 delegates eligible to vote, with Johor having the highest number of delegates followed by Selangor and Perak.
Commenting on the low turnout rate, Nicole Wong Siaw Ting, who is vying for the Youth chairman post said that there was a lack of awareness among delegates.
Wong is in a straight fight with for the post with MCA Youth legal bureau chief Ng Kian Nam.
Ng, who described the low turnout rate as "disappointing but expected" said this reinforced the need to reform the party and to nurture loyal, active members instead of just recruiting members
About 30% of some one million MCA members are from the Youth Wing.
Results of the elections are expected later at about 10pm.
A total of 47 candidates are contesting for 31 posts of Youth chairman, deputy chairman, four vice-chairmen and 25 central committee members.
