Saved from cat-astrophe: Firemen cleaning up the cat after it was found under the rubble at the landslide site.

GEORGE TOWN: A scrawny tabby cat was found alive under the rubble at the landslide.

Firemen discovered the feline, which was soaking wet, yesterday.

The rescue team then contacted the Penang Buddhist Tzu Chi Merit Society, which deployed a volunteer to bring the cat to a veterinary clinic for treatment.

Tzu Chi Penang commissioner Khoo Boo Leong said an examination by the vet found that the cat had fractured one of its legs.

“We will ensure that the cat is properly treated and will find a suitable home for it later,” Khoo said.

During the search and rescue operation on Friday, volunteers from Tzu Chi were also present at the site at around 4.30pm to distribute food and drinking water.
