KUALA TERENGGANU: Police revealed the true nature of business inside a double-storey house in Cherong Lanjut, after a married couple was arrested in suspicion of using it as a brothel.
Kuala Terengganu Deputy OCPD Supt Suffian Sulaiman said a team from the district criminal investigations department raided the house at around 10.40pm on Saturday (Oct 20) after being tipped off by informants.
"We arrested the couple in their forties, who we identified as the 'caretakers' of the prostitutes of this brothel," he said.
The 44-year-old man is said to own a motorcycle spare-parts business, while his wife,48, is a retired teacher.
Supt Suffian said the man would entice customers through the mobile messaging app, WeChat, while his wife would be at the house, welcoming the customers and supplying them with condoms before their tryst with the prostitutes.
He said two foreign women, aged 21 and 32, believed to be prostitutes under the couples' charge, were also arrested during the raid.
The women had valid passports with social visit passes and entered the country through Rantau Panjang.
Police also seized several items, including condoms, massage oils, mobile phones, a ledger, and more than RM3,000 in cash, believed to be the business' revenue.
"We believe they have been operating for about two weeks and charging their customers about RM250 an hour," Supt Suffian said.
He said the brothel served both foreign and local clients, and it is believed that the couple also hired local women as prostitutes.
All those arrested have been remanded for seven days to aid with investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 372 of the penal code for exploiting persons for purpose of prostitution and Section 372B of the same act for soliciting for purpose of prostitution.
