GEORGE TOWN: The Fire and Rescue Department is searching for four more victims at the Jalan Bukit Kukus landslide here.

Its director, Saadon Mokhtar, said relatives and friends of at least another three workers have come forward, saying some of them are missing.

"We thought only one was missing, but now we are looking for another three workers," Saadon said to reporters at the landslide site on Sunday (Oct 21).

The fifth and sixth bodies were recovered by rescuers on Sunday. This brings the death toll to six.

"The last two victims were on top of each other when we found them at sector 1 (the main area of search).

"We will continue with the search, as the Land and Mines Department has declared the site safe to continue with SAR operation," said Saadon.

The body of Bangladeshi nationals Mithu Hossain, 30, and Mustak Hossain, 25, were found just minutes apart at the scene at about 12.15pm.

The search was called off at 8pm on Saturday (Oct 20), after it was found certain parts of the site were not safe to continue with rescue operations.

The other victims were identified as Indonesians Samsul, 19, and Bahtiar, 36, Bangladeshi Aktarul, 35, and Myanmar national Khin Aye Khang, 33.
The 1.55pm landslide on Friday (Oct 19) occurred following downpours in the state since Thursday (Oct 18) evening.

It caused the hilly areas to collapse and slide down, bringing the containers and workers' quarters to be buried together at the construction site of the paired road at Jalan Bukit Kukus.

Three people were rescued. They were identified as Bangladeshi Shamim, 24, Indonesians Wakrini, 36, and Nora Zizah, 24.
