Teacher pleads not guilty to molesting pupil, released on RM10,000 bail

KOTA BARU: A primary school teacher was released on a RM10,000 bail after pleading not guilty to a charge of molesting a 12-year-old pupil.

The Sessions Court fixed Nov 14 for re-mention of the case.

Schoolteacher Nor Azlam Ab Rahman, 38, was charged with molesting a female pupil more than two months ago in a school laboratory in Kota Baru.

The incident allegedly occurred at 2.30pm on Aug 4.

If found guilty, he is liable to a maximum 20-year jail and whipping, as provided under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

Counsel Mohd Azrul Hashimi requested for the accused to be released on bail on grounds that his client was a teacher with no previous offence.

The judge granted bail with one surety.
