PETALING JAYA: Saleem's songs comforted my soul when I was fighting as the opposition.

Those were the words of Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng, who was saddened by the death of Iklim frontman Saleem.

Saleem, or AM Salim Abdul Majeed, was 57 when he died on Sunday morning (Oct 14). A family member confirmed the news of his passing, The Star’s Malay portal mStar reported.

"I am truly saddened by his death. His song 'Suci Dalam Debu' represents a very fond memory to me in the 90's.

"When I was fighting as the opposition, his songs calmed my soul. I hope he his at peace," Lim said on his Twitter page.

Saleem was seeking treatment at UKM Medical Centre after a road accident last month. His motorcycle was reported to have been hit from behind by a car, sending him flying from the vehicle.
