Flash floods hit primary school in interior Sarawak

MIRI: SK Nanga Belingiau in the deep interior of Sarawak was inundated after high tide and heavy rain. 

The primary school is located two hours away by boat from the nearest town of Kanowit, which is an hour drive from Sibu town.

It started facing rising waters at about 9pm on Saturday (Oct 13) and its management called Bomba for help.  

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department said the Bomba unit arrived at the school at about 10.45pm.  

The fire and rescue teams found that the school staff had moved their belongings out of the flooded area.  

The Bomba team is monitoring the situation as the flood is expected to recede.
