GEORGE TOWN: To help the state and people save money, Penang MCA is asking if Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow (pic) will also scrap the RM6.3bil undersea tunnel project, just as how Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng wants to terminate the MMC-Gamuda contract to build the underground portion of the MRT Line 2 (MRT2).
“The undersea tunnel is unreasonably expensive, will Penang terminate its contract to save taxpayers’ money?” asked Penang MCA chairman Datuk Tan Teik Cheng in a statement yesterday.
Tan also asked whether Chow would emulate Lim’s move of terminating the MRT2 contract with MMC-Gamuda for uncompleted underground works as part of cost-saving measures.
“Lim even said that a re-tendering will be called, and his aide and Damansara MP Tony Pua revealed that the government terminated the contract out of concern that MMC-Gamuda was reluctant to slash the RM2bil underground works.
“I would like to ask, if going by Lim’s standards, will Chow too deal with the contractor of the undersea tunnel project in the same manner?” Tan asked.
