GEORGE TOWN: A total of fifteen people were arrested for using illegal computerised gambling machines at an illegal gambling den in a mall here on Thursday (Oct 11).
Those arrested included three caretakers of the gambling den and 12 players.
They were caught red-handed during the 2.30pm incident that saw plain-cloth policemen carrying out the raid at an entertainment centre at Prangin Mall here.
George Town OCPD Asst Comm Che Zaimani Che Awang said the caretakers comprised two local women and one foreign woman, whereas the players arrested were all locals, comprising nine men and three women.
"A total of 29 simulator and three "dart induk" (a gambling machine in the shape of a dartboard) machines were confiscated.
"We also confiscated three computers and six modems," he said in a statement.
Police also seized more than RM12,000 in cash during the raid.
He said the caretakers and players were arrested under Section 4b(a) and Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953 respectively.
