PORT DICKSON: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak should provide a public explanation on why he did not launch fresh investigations into the murders allegedly linked to him during his tenure as prime minister, said DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang.
“He should answer why he didn’t reopen investigations as PM,” he said to reporters when met during a Pakatan Harapan ceramah at Lukut on Wednesday (Oct 10).
Najib had earlier claimed that Lim’s refusal to engage the former over the murder cases linked to him was because Lim knew that there was no basis to those accusations.
Lim, when pressed further to comment over the matter, labelled the embattled former premier as “talking gibberish” and being incoherent in his arguments.
“I have a feeling that either he is utterly stupid and doesn’t understand what I’m saying, or somebody else is writing for him.
“I don’t know. But, I’m profoundly shocked that he could utter such gibberish,” he said.
Lim was referring to the high-profile murder cases of Arab-Malaysia Bank Development Bank founder Hussain Ahmad Najadi, Mongolian model Altantuya Shaariibuu, Teoh Beng Hock and Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Datuk Anthony Kevin Morais.
Lim said that he already stated his position over the issue clearly, that the mysterious deaths of the trio should be reinvestigated by the relevant authorities.
Asked if he have spoken to Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad over the matter, Lim refused to divulge further.
“I don’t have to tell you how I operate. My position is clear that there should be the reopening of the investigation,” he said.
The duo had engaged in a public tiff over the matter for several weeks, since the Iskandar Puteri MP had urged the government to reconsider opening fresh probes into these high-profile murders.
Previously, Lim, in his blog, had said that Najib did not kill Teoh but that his administration must be held responsible for Teoh’s death.Najib said the Pakatan government’s refusal to conduct special investigations into those high-profile cases have vindicated him over the slanderous accusations that have plagued his leadership over the previous years.
