Two killed, one injured after MPV crashes into guardrail

GEORGE TOWN (Bernama): Two people were killed while another was injured after the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) they were travelling in crashed into a guardrail on the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway, Batu Uban here.

In the 6.20am incident on Saturday (Oct 6), Abdul Rahim Yahaya, 52, and K. Puventhiran, 24, died on the spot to due to severe head and body injuries.

Timur Laut district police chief ACP Che Zaimani Che Awang said the 25-year-old driver sustained serious injuries.

He said the accident was believed to have occurred when the MPV, travelling towards the Penang International Airport, skidded and swerved to the left side of the road before crashing into the guardrail.

ACP Che Zaimani said the bodies of the victims were sent to the Penang Hospital for post-mortem, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 41(1)  of the Road Transport Act 1987. - Bernama
