It’s no day at the beach for Anwar

Hard work: Anwar has his work cut out to win the votes of the military and their family in Port Dickson.

THE Port Dickson by-election campaign is at its halfway point. Winning this by-election would mean Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim would have completed the third of his four legs necessary for him to become Prime Minister. He has already completed the following legs: Obtain a Royal Pardon and get released from prison; and acquire legitimacy within his own party by becoming president of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).

Next step, win a by-election engineered to put him back in Parliament and finally ascend to the premiership when Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad retires two years from now. But a bigger challenge for Anwar is to ascertain his legitimacy to lead Malaysians.
