GEORGE TOWN: The 25-year-old MPV driver who left an accident scene after two of the passengers he was ferrying were killed, lodged a police report 35 hours later.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Che Zaimani Che Awang said investigations revealed that the man, from Jalan Perak here, had sought treatment at the Bukit Mertajam Hospital after the accident.

“We will not detain him. The investigation officer said that he has given cooperation.

“His alibi that the tyre burst is consistent with evidence on the scene,” he said in a statement on Sunday (Oct 7).

The police report was made at 5.02pm on Sunday (Oct 7), almost 35 hours, after the crash had taken place on the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway here at 6.20am on Saturday (Oct 6).

Two security guards, Abdul Rahman Yahya, 52, and Puventhiran Kejaderan, 24, died on the spot.

The MPV from the city was heading towards Penang International Airport. It is believed to have lost control and skidded before crashing into the expressway railing, which then penetrated the vehicle’s cabin.

It was learnt that the driver’s cousin had taken him to a hospital and had given his identity card to the investigating officer, but did not reveal where the driver was taken to.
