KUALA LUMPUR: Known by her nickname Pony, Park Hye-min is one of South Korea’s well known beauty YouTubers.
The 26-year-old makeup guru was at the Pavilion Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday (Sept 26) evening on an invitation by Shiseido Malaysia, which she had earlier announced on her Instagram account.
Pony has over 4.4 million subscribers on YouTube (Pony Syndrome) and she’s been blogging and doing YouTube tutorials on makeup since 2015.
She started her career as a beauty blogger on Cyworld, a popular social media network in South Korea.
According to a spokesman, Pony is the Regional Colour Artist for Shiseido and was flown into Malaysia for the launch of the latest Shiseido Makeup collection that comprised 18 products and 122 shades.
Pony went onstage at the Shiseido makeup launch event at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur for a demo and said in Korean: "What is great is we have a choice of wearing so many different textures from the range of eye and lip makeup."
She conducted a makeup demonstration and introduced the Shiseido’s latest products which the brand says is "visible but feels invisible."
More than 100 people - including celebrities, media and bloggers - had turned up for the event.
Pony started posting photos that provided step-by-step instructions for achieving different makeup looks on Cyworld until the platform opened the door for more captivating and engaging video content.
Not long after, she became one of the most popular beauty bloggers on Naver, South Korea's prominent Internet search engine, which led to content partnerships with major entertainment companies.
The former graphic designer created her personal YouTube channel in 2015 and it quickly went viral after she uploaded a video that showcased her spectacular ability to transform herself into Taylor Swift simply with makeup.
Her tutorials on YouTube are skilfully created and her chatty personality teaches you everything from how to recreate your favourite K-Pop idol’s trendy makeup to the perfect cat eye makeup.
Pony was awarded Makeup Artist of the Year by the South Korean Makeup Association in 2011 and has published a book, Pony's Style Makeup Book, in 2014.
With her striking good looks, Pony can be mistaken for a South Korean Idol and in fact, she is close to one as she was the makeup artist for K-Pop star CL, the now defunct South Korean girl group 2NE1, and has toured with CL in 2017.
Aside from her YouTube channel, she is active on Instagram (@ponysmakeup) where she has a whopping 5.6 million followers.
Partnering with Memebox, Pony has created a line of cosmetics and it was so successful that she has come up with her own makeup brand called Pony Effect – which can be purchased on online retail platforms such as Lazada, Hermo and Zalora.
In 2017, she was featured as part of Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia: The Arts list, and while she is still active on YouTube, Pony has plans to launch a new television series called Pony On Air.
