KUALA TERENGGANU: PAS has decided to field a candidate in the Port Dickson by-election.
Speaking after the PAS central committee meeting, its President Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang said the party will make the announcement of its candidate in Port Dickson tomorrow night (Sept 27).
"The candidate will be someone of a similar calibre as Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
"We are doing so to keep democracy alive," he said but did not reveal any more hints on its candidate.
At the recent PAS Muktamar (general assembly) Abdul Hadi said that the Islamist party would field a candidate if Umno did not.
Umno has decided to boycott the by-election believing it to be a ploy to fulfil someone's political ambitions.
When asked about its chances of winning, Hadi said it would be difficult but not impossible.
He also said PAS' decision to contest in the by-election will not affect the co-operative relationship it has with Umno, as it sees them as two different topics.
The Port Dickson by-election was called after its MP, Datuk Danyal Balagopal Abdullah vacated his seat on Sept 12.
