KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Rahim, who has been remanded for alleged graft, will remain an Umno supreme council member.
Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (pic) said for now, Azeez would also keep his Baling Umno chief’s post.
“That is according to the rule of law and is as stated in our party constitution.
“Until he is charged and the court has heard and decided on his case, Azeez will remain supreme council member and Baling chief,” he told The Star yesterday.
Dr Ahmad Zahid refused to delve into the case, saying that Azeez, who is Baling MP, would have the opportunity to clear his name in court should he be charged.
Umno secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa hoped that Azeez would be given due justice.
“We respect the rule of law and the legal process.
“He should be given the opportunity to clear his name,” he said.
