PETALING JAYA: Cheras Umno division chief Datuk Seri Syed Ali Al-Habshee has resigned from Umno, Sinar Harian has reported.
The Malay daily said that the former Federal Territories Umno secretary made his decision to quit the party as he wanted to “safeguard the interest of Malays in the Federal Territory”.
“I would like to officially announce that I have made the decision with a heavy heart to leave Umno,” he was quoted as saying at the Cheras recreation centre on Monday (Sept 24).
Syed Ali's departure from Umno followed similar moves by Former Foreign Minister and Kimanis MP Datuk Seri Anifah Aman, who quit Umno on Sept 19.Previously, Jeli MP Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed also announced that he was quitting Umno after more than 40 years of service to the party. – Sinar Harian
