KOTA KINABALU: Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu will be holding a ministerial-level discussion over the issue of PAS' volunteer corps attire resembling army ceremonial uniforms.

“We will discuss this at the ministerial level to see what action can be taken next.

"We will see whether they are allowed to wear the number one dress or not,” said the minister, who is better known as Mat Sabu, at a hotel here after paying a courtesy call on Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal on Sunday (Sept 16).

The uniforms worn by PAS' Jabatan Amal volunteer corps during the party's Muktamar (general assembly) on Saturday (Sept 15) drew brickbats from veterans group National Patriots Association (Patriot), who said that it was an offence under Section 140 of the Penal Code.

Section 140 of the Penal Code (Act 574) states that it is an offence for anyone not in the military service to wear any garb, or carry any token, resembling those used by the military.

The offence is punishable with jail which can extend to three months, or fine which can extend to RM1,000, or both.

Patriot president Brig-Jen (Rtd) Datuk Mohamed Arshad Raji urged the Defence Ministry and Home Ministry to take appropriate action over the incident.

Meanwhile, PAS Youth chief Muhammad Khalil Abdul Hadi said he acknowledged the dissatisfaction of former servicemen over the uniforms worn by its volunteer corps as they were similar to the ceremonial uniforms of the Armed Forces.

"We will review it and correct any mistakes," he had said when contacted on Sunday (Sept 16).
