PETALING JAYA: “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing,” said Irish philosopher Edmund Burke.
Unfortunately, that is true in the case of the recent brutal killing of a pregnant cat in a launderette in Gombak.
Several pictures of the individuals suspected to have been involved in the incident on Tuesday (Sept 11) have been posted online, and some show the presence of other individuals at the time of the killing.
Several Malaysians are angered that these witnesses sat idly by and did nothing when the two suspects killed the cat by shoving it into a dryer and turning it on.
“Do you know what is disheartening? When the men placed the cat in the dryer, there were other people at the launderette,” Lyna Amalina posted on Facebook.
She added that these people should be sent to the lockup as well.
Another Facebook user Sha Arieza also questioned the inaction of the other launderette patrons.
“If people continue to not care about what’s going on around them, incidents like this will continue,” she added.
There are also several Facebook posts that include what appears to be the full name, contact number and vehicle licence plate number of one of the suspects.
It is not known how these personal details were obtained.
Two men were recorded throwing a pregnant cat into a coin-operated dryer at a launderette in Taman Gombak Ria on Tuesday at about 12.30am.
A video of the incident has gone viral and sparked outrage among animal lovers on social media, with many urging harsh punishment for the suspects.
Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Samsor Maarof said the police are on the lookout for three men to assist in their investigation.
“Those with information on their whereabouts are urged to contact investigating officer Insp Najmi at 017-929 1359,” he said.
The case is currently being investigated under Section 428 of the Penal Code, for mischief by killing or maiming animals.
