SHAH ALAM: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) should follow five core values to ensure the party will always be on the right track.

The five core values are discipline, trust (amanah), unity, the struggles (perjuangan), and commitment, said Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

He said God is testing Bersatu by granting them the power to rule and said that if such powers are seen as a trust, then it must be fulfilled with responsibilities.

If this power is seen as a gift to use them for personal gains, then slowly, the powers will ruin the party.

"We must learn from history. The Opposition (Barisan Nasional) was very powerful once but they had their powers stripped (di cabut) from them as they had done much damage (kerosakan) by abusing their powers.

"They allowed values and bad culture to seep into their party and they were rejected by the Rakyat.

"Our party is still new and I believe we still can shape the Bersatu culture to ensure we use the powers (given to us) in a right way," said Muhyidin in his speech to about a thousand supporters at Bersatu's second anniversary at Stadium Malawati here on Saturday night.

Muhyiddin was not present and his recorded speech was played on the big screens inside the stadium.

Also present were Bersatu chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, his wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Ali, deputy president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir and other leaders.

Other Pakatan Harapan leaders such as DAP national chairman Tan Kok Wai, PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, Warisan president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal, among others.

Muhyiddin said Bersatu members must have strict discipline and ensure they adhere to the party's ethics and constitution.

He said members should not be too self-absorbed in their own matters that it can cause chaos in the party.

Respect and loyalty towards the directives from the leadership is a must.

The second value is trust (amanah), said Muhyidin.

"As a ruling party, the Rakyat has placed high hopes on us to fulfill our promises to them.

"For party members who are in position, always remind yourselves to implement the promises made to the Rakyat.

"Don't be reckless (cuai) that we are seen as purposely going against our promises," he said.

The third value is unity where everyone should have good intent (bersangka baik) towards one another and help rectify each other's weaknesses, he said.

Muhyiddin also reminded members on their struggles to save the country.

"Winning the general election does not mean we have achieved our aim, we are entering a new phase in our struggle to help the country recover.

"In this stage, there are still sacrifices that need to be done, as such, do not be disappointed if certain requests are not fulfilled at this point," he said, adding that what is vital now is for members to throw their support behind Dr Mahathir, who is also the Prime Minister, to steer the nation.

Lastly, commitment to the party is also vital, adding that members should always work to strengthen the party, he said.

Muhyiddin said apart from strengthening Bersatu, members must also ensure strong relationships with Pakatan Harapan members to build confidence for the Rakyat.
