Cops detain man over racist rant in viral video

PETALING JAYA: The police have arrested a man following a viral video that stoked racial tensions.

Selangor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Fadzil Ahmat said that a report regarding the video was made on Aug 30.

"The report was made based on the viral video of a man who insulted Islam. Selangor police arrested the 24-year-old man at around 3.40am on Sunday (Sept 2) in Johor Baru.

"The suspect is from Kedah, and has no prior criminal record. The case is being investigated under Section 298A of the Penal Code for causing religious disharmony.

The two minute-and-35 second video had been making its rounds on social media lately.

In the video, an unidentified man went on an angry tirade regarding the religion.
