ISKANDAR PUTERI: Johor Women Development and Tourism Committee chairman Liow Cai Tung is the latest state official whose name has been used to solicit money from unsuspecting victims.

According to Liow's Special Officers, a man contacted them claiming that the executive councillor had agreed to give him RM1,000 following the death of his father.

“She has never given any instruction to give the money to the suspect,’’ said Liow’s Special Officer Ahmad Anwar Asyraf, 35, in a press conference here on Thursday (Aug 30).

Ahmad said he had received a call from the man, who introduced himself as 'Kodi', at about 9.45am on Aug 29, informing him that his father, Doraisamy had passed away at a hospital in Kluang.

Ahmad said 'Kodi' claimed that Liow asked him to call (Ahmad) to get the money, and even forwarded a text message allegedly from Liow.

Upon checking, Ahmad said Liow informed him that she had not spoken to the man and denied sending text messages to him.

Ahmad and Liow’s other Special Officer Jessica Oh lodged a police report at Taman Johor Jaya police station at about 2.30pm on Wednesday (Aug 29).

He said a similar case happened in June involving a Special Officer to the Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Salahuddin Ayub but no police report was lodged.

“We hope police will investigate the case immediately and members of the public are also advised not to fall prey should they receive calls from people soliciting for money using the names of state executive councillors or ministers,’’ said Ahmad.
