KOTA KINABALU: Security forces in Sabah want the two actors who claimed they were at risk of being kidnapped by pirates while shooting a movie off Semporna to lodge a police report.
Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) Commander Datuk Hazani Ghazali said Hairul Azreen and Ammar Alfian should have reported the matter to the authorities immediately instead of giving unverified “interviews” to the media.
“The interview which came out in Harian Metro on Aug 28 has caused unnecessary alarm and worry among the people,” he said in a statement here yesterday.
He said the “information” given by the actors was also dubious, as Esscom did not receive any report of attempted kidnapping at an oil rig, named Tun Sharifah Roziah sea base, where the actors were involved in a movie shoot. The area, he added, was part of the Esscom security zone.
Hazani said throughout the filming, security forces, including the Royal Malaysian Navy’s Special Forces commandos (Paskal), guarded the actors and the movie crew members.
He added while the allegation might be a promotion gimmick, it should not be used as a cheap publicity tool to attract people to watch the film titled Paskal, which is expected to be screened in September.
