SEREMBAN: Police have detained a 37-year-old suspect for allegedly assaulting a transgender woman here.

Seremban deputy OCPD Supt Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman said the man has been remanded till Aug 21 to help in police probe.

"Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect assaulted the victim early Wednesday (Aug 15).

"Nevertheless, we need to get in touch with several witnesses who were with the accused at the time of the alleged incident to know what really happened," he said when contacted Friday.

It is learnt that police are probing the case under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt.

It is understood the victim's brother lodged a police report upon learning of the alleged assault at Taman AST here.

Asked if the victim suffered serious injuries, Supt Sulizmie said police have yet to get the victim's medical report.
