Dr Halimah Ali, a former Selangor state executive councillor (exco) was announced as the PAS candidate for the upcoming by-election for the Seri Setia state seat in Petaling Jaya.

“Stand by me and I will stand by you. Let’s be the check and balance for Pakatan Harapan,” she said soon after she was announced as the candidate .

The announcement was made by PAS party president Datuk Seri Hadi Awang at Desa Mentari in Petaling Jaya.

Hadi said Pakatan has failed to reduce the cost of living even with the removal of GST.

Hadi claimed that Pakatan had promised to “instantly" abolish highway tolls and reduce the price of petrol after winning the elections. But they had supposedly failed to do so.

"They (Pakatan) said their manifesto is not a Kitab Suci (Holy Book)," said Hadi.

He said there must be a strong opposition to Pakatan.

The Seri Setia constituency (N. 32) has 53,492 eligible voters as of Aug 2. From that total, there are 2,770 early voters (army and police personnel) and 30 overseas voters.

The Seri Setia assemblyman and Selangor exco Prof Dr Shaharuddin Badaruddin passed away on Aug 2 after a battle with colon cancer.

The father of six won the seat in GE 14 with a total of 29,250 votes and a majority of 19,372 votes.

He had 30 years experience in the academic and management field, having served as a lecturer at Universiti Teknologi MARA for 30 years in various campuses.

He was also the former Deputy Vice Chancellor and Vice President of Universiti Selangor (Unisel).
