KOTA KINABALU: Two teenagers were killed while their four friends were seriously injured after the vehicle they were travelling in plunged into a river at KM33 of the Semporna-Tawau road on Saturday (Aug 11).

Mohd Iqhram Robert, 18, and Mohd Razmin Kadariah, 19, both from Semporna, were believed to have been killed on the spot following the 7.30pm mishap.

Their 18-year-old friends, Muhammad Firdaus (who was driving) and Nur Mohmmad Nazdrul Nizam are in critical condition while two others, Muhd Hamirzan Maksud and Muhammad ILyas Herman, escaped with minor injuries.

Semporna police chief Supt Peter Umbuas said the boys were in an SUV headed to Tawau when the driver lost control of the vehicle just as it reached a sharp bend in the road.

The car then swerved into the barrier at the side of the road and crashed near a bridge before plunging 10m into a river.

All victims were brought to the Semporna hospital for post-mortem and treatment.

The case is being investigated under the Road Transport Act.
