Fire razes forest near Jalan Duta courts

PETALING JAYA: Almost two hectares of forest along Jalan Kuching near the Segambut roundabout was razed in a bushfire Friday (Aug 10) night.

In the 9.45pm incident, the fire spread quickly and almost reached the Jalan Duta Court Complex in Kuala Lumpur.

Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department director Khirudin Drahman said they received the distress call around 9.56pm.

"Around 32 firemen and seven fire engines were dispatched from the Sentul, Sri Hartamas, Bukit Bintang, and Kepong Batu fire stations to the scene.

"As soon as we arrived, we realised the fire was getting close to the court complex," he said when contacted on Saturday.

The fire engulfed a billboard nearby.

It took fire fighters about an hour to get the flames under control.

"There was no loss of life and we are investigating the cause of the fire," he said.
