Esscom team foils kidnapping bid off Lahad Datu waters

KOTA KINABALU: Malaysian security forces have foiled a possible kidnapping attempt on the crew of a tugboat by suspected kidnap-for-ransom groups on Friday (Aug 10).

The southern Philippines-based gang comprising of at least 10 suspects fled upon realising the presence of the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) team that were patrolling the waters near Lahad Datu's Tambisan area.
