PETALING JAYA: A book about the historic May 9 general election, which saw the end of the Barisan Nasional hold on power, has been released.
The book, May 9: People Power Saves Malaysia, is the first on GE14 that narrates how Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad played a key role in bringing Malaysians together to change the government.
"Dr Mahathir and a tsunami of voters saved Malaysia from corruption," said the author and veteran journalist M. Krishnamoorthy.
"Malaysians were determined to be resilient, resourceful, and open-minded to face the challenges and realities of the 21st century.
"Malaysia was engulfed in darkness and we finally saw the light on May 9. People saved Malaysia by taking on the responsibility to vote for a brighter future for our children and a better tomorrow.
"This is a modest book. It does not pretend to be an academic exercise but it is put together, reflecting the mood of the people, to mark the new government," he said in a statement.
"Those of us, the older ones, who grew up knowing only Dr Mahathir as the Prime Minister may still have doubts and questions about Dr Mahathir.
"At 93, he doesn't need power and wealth. I think he just want to put things right and we know he is running out of time. Let's support him in his quest to save Malaysia," the veteran journalist said.
The 170-page book is now available at MPH bookshops.
