KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Umno members have been urged to stick with the party and its new leadership.

Sabah Umno liaison chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said although Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) were now the opposition, members and the leadership are still fighting for the interests of the people.

“Being opposition should not dampen the spirits of party members in continuing to serve the people and protecting the rights and interests of Sabah,” he said after chairing the Sabah Umno Liaison meeting here Tuesday (Aug 7).

He said Sabah Umno leaders and members now comprised ‘fighters’ who have dignity, sincerity and loyalty in supporting the party’s struggles.

“Umno was never shaky and we continue holding on to the true principles of our party struggles,” Hajiji said, adding that Umno will become a dominant and constructive opposition.

This is the first meeting he has chaired since being appointed as new Sabah Umno liaison chairman following GE14.

Meanwhile, Hajiji accused BN and Umno ex-assemblymen who crossed over and are now working with Parti Warisan Sabah and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) of lacking principles.

“They betrayed the mandate given by supporters and voters. They left BN and Umno just because of their personal interests and the positions offered,” he said.
