KUALA LUMPUR: Perak DAP chief Nga Kor Ming can only declare himself to be a “man of substance” if he is able to fulfil his pledge of getting freehold land titles for Chinese new villages in the state, said Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
Together with video recordings on Nga making the freehold title promise to the Chinese during the 14th General Election campaign, the MCA deputy president wrote in his Facebook using a Chinese phrase " jiang dao, zuo dao, you liao dao" (fulfil what you said, and you got substance) to remind Nga of promises made on the campaign trail.
In one of the video recordings, Nga told the crowd that he would hand over freehold titles to them in the coming New Year.
Nga, who won the Teluk Intan parliamentary seat and Aulong state seat in Perak, said only the state can give the freehold titles to the villagers.
Dr Wee was commenting on Chinese dailies last week quoting Perak Mentri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu as saying that the state can give 99-year-leasehold titles to the villages which includes the Chinese, Malay and Indian villages.
"Waiting for you to do magic, change the MB's 99-years lease to 999 years lease," Dr Wee told Nga.
On Saturday (Aug 4), Dr Wee said that Ahmad Faizal and the state exco should answer to villagers in Kampung Baru Kuala Bikam in Bidor after their farmland were bulldozed by a sand mining company.
"Outrageous... is DAP prepared to just watch these village farmers' livelihoods get literally bulldozed?
"This is 76.9ha of land with fruit trees such as mango and guava, vegetables and oil palm we are talking about," he wrote on Facebook.
Farmer Poh Wai Sheng, 22, also alleged that Pakatan Harapan politicians had assured them that they would help them with the land issues during the GE14 campaign.
While they do not own the land title, the farmers have been toiling on the farmland for over 40 years.
Poh added that a representative from the sand mining company told them that the company was issued the mining licence on June 20.
The farmers were also issued a letter informing them to vacate the land from Aug 3 onwards to make way for the sand mining operation.
