SHAH ALAM (Bernama): A registered voter in the Sungai Kandis constituency, PKR's candidate, Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni, has cast his ballot at the SK Jalan Kebun here.
The principal of Maahad Tahfiz Al Fateh in Jalan Kebun arrived at his "alma mater" at about 9am Saturday (Aug 4) accompanied by his wife, Hazlina Abdul Razak, who also voted at the centre.
The polling centre at SK Jalan Kebun was of 19 that were opened at 8am to enable 51,217 registered voters to exercise their voting right.
Fair weather in the morning allowed voters to turn out early.
And there is no early voting by the police or armed forces.
The Sungai Kandis by-election, the first after the 14th General Election, sees a three-cornered fight involving Mohd Zawawi, who is PKR Religious Understanding and Consolidation Bureau secretary, Barisan Nasional's Datuk Lokman Noor who is an Umno Supreme Council member, and independent candidate K. Murthy, a government retiree.
The by-election is being held following the death of incumbent Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei of PKR, due to cancer on July 2.Mat Shuhaimi retained the seat for the third consecutive term in the last general election with a majority of 12,480 votes in a four-cornered fighter against Barisan, PAS and Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM). - Bernama
