PETALING JAYA: There should not be any cover-up of the allegations of sexual harassment against female housemen, says Ramkarpal Singh.

The Star reported on July 29 that the head of the orthopaedics department at a hospital in the Klang Valley had been allegedly sexually harassing female housemen for years.

The Bukit Gelugor MP said that the "cover-up culture" in government departments should be abolished.

"We cannot tolerate such culture anymore," said Ramkarpal when contacted on Friday.

He said that those behind any cover-up should be held responsible.

"I am warning them, we will investigate, and if there is a cover-up, the people (involved) will be held responsible," he said.

Ramkarpal said that he was currently in touch with the victims.

"We are still at a stage where we are interviewing them. We want to know what sort of options are available to them.

"I will do all I can to assist the victims," he added.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said that investigation on the allegations was still underway.

He said this to the media after launching the Malaysia International Sports and Fitness Fair 2018 at Putra World Trade Centre here on Friday.

Dr Dzulkefly said that the investigation was carried out by the independent investigating body set up after news of the allegations broke out.

"We have three approaches - one is the independent body, then the victims' defence counsel, or if the police take it up, then the law is going to take its course," said Dr Dzulkefly.

He assured that the investigation will be carried out well.
