PETALING JAYA: Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) has offered to take over Syarikat Pengeluar Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (SPLASH) for RM2.55bil.

Selangor Mentri Besar Amirudin Shari said the figure is a 28% discount based on SPLASH’s net book value as of June 30.

Air Selangor will make an upfront payment of RM1.9bil and the remaining RM650mil will be paid via instalments throughout a period of nine years.

“This is a historical moment for both the state government and Selangor folk because after 10 years, we finally found a solution for our water woes.

“An efficient water supply will definitely be welcomed by the rakyat and the business community,” he told a press conference after witnessing the handing over of the offer letter from Air Selangor CEO Suhaimi Kamaralzaman to Syarikat Pengeluar Air Selangor Holdings Bhd (SPLASH Holdings) chairman Tan Sri Wan Azmi Wan Hamzah.

Amirudin added that by the end of this year, all water concessions in Selangor will be ended, and in 2019, Air Selangor will be the sole company to process, treat and distribute treated water to consumers in the state and Putrajaya.

This will allow Air Selangor to run at a reasonable operational cost which will in turn, ensure that water tariffs will no longer burden the people.

Speaking in a press conference on Friday, Air Selangor CEO Suhaimi Kamaralzaman said it is a pure cash deal and the method will be discussed over the next one and a half months.
