SHAH ALAM: At least 1,200 police personnel will be on duty throughout the Sungai Kandis by-election.

Selangor police chief Comm Mazlan Mansor said they had made all the necessary preparations for the entire by-election and nomination day process.

“We are ready to face the by-election together with the Election Commission.

“In total 1,200 personnel from Selangor will be on duty.

“We are also doubling our traffic investigation and enforcement department personnel who will be on duty to ensure smooth traffic flow in the area,” he told reporters at the monthly assembly at the Selangor police headquarters on Tuesday (July 17).

He said they do not anticipate any untoward incidents during nomination day and polling day for the by-election.

“Our hope is that the entire process is concluded without a hitch.

“I want to remind the public to obey the law and adhere to instructions from police, who will be stationed there to maintain public order.

“We also want to remind any drone users out there to forget about their plans to fly drones in the area,” he said, explaining that usage of drones in the area was prohibited.

The Sungai Kandis by-election was called after PKR’s incumbent assemblyman Mat Shuhaimi Shafie passed away on July 2 due to lymphatic cancer.

The Sungai Kandis by-election will be held on Aug 4. Nomination will be on July 21 and the campaign period is 14 days.
