Sabah’s sea curfew extended to July 30

KOTA KINABALU: The curfew in the waters off seven districts in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESSZone), which was scheduled to end at 6pm today, has been extended to July 30, says Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Ramli Din.

The curfew covers the waters off Tawau, Semporna, Kunak, Lahad Datu, Kinabatangan, Sandakan and Beluran.

With the extension, those living in the affected areas should remain indoors, while outsiders would not be allowed to enter the waters between 6pm and 6am during the period, Comm Ramli said in a statement yesterday.

The extension is based on information that the Abu Sayyaf and kidnap-for-ransom gangs from the southern Philippines are still active, along with other cross-border crimes. — Bernama
