PETALING JAYA: A total of 589 bookies have been detained, while some RM420,000 worth of bets have been seized in connection with betting on World Cup matches.
Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najumuddin Mohd said some 499 raids were conducted nationwide since June 10, given that illegal bets would spike during the prestigious competition, which is held every four years.
