SANDAKAN: Two people, including an Indonesian woman, have been arrested on suspicion of producing fake identification documents.

Sabah Immigration director Musa Sulaiman said the duo were arrested in an operation codenamed Ops Mega 3.0 (Serkap) at about 12.40pm Monday (July 9).

Musa said eight immigration officers raided a convenience store in a block of flats located along Batu 2.5, Jalan Utara, here, upon receiving information from the surveillance unit.

“They discovered a room with a photocopy machine and printer, believed to have been used to produce fake identification documents.

“Other related items were also seized to be used as evidence,” he said.

Musa said the operation concluded at about 1.20pm.

The duo were brought to an immigration office in Batu 7 to facilitate investigations under Section 55D of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Immigration Regulations 1959/63.

The first suspect, a 31-year-old Malaysian man, was later released on police bail.

The second suspect, a 28-year-old Indonesian woman with a temporary resident card, is being held at the Sibuga detention centre.
