MCA: Six issues DAP should raise in Cabinet

PETALING JAYA: The Unified Examination Certificate (UEC), the construction of Chinese primary schools and National Civics Bureau (BTN) are among the six issues DAP ministers should raise in the Cabinet to ensure the current governance is on the right track, says Datuk Chai Kim Sen.

In a statement on Tuesday, the MCA publicity bureau chairman urged the ministers to speak up during the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday (July 11) on various issues that had attracted wide attention in the past one week.

He said DAP should clarify the views of Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik on the UEC and ensure that it is recognised.

Chai said the Education Minister claimed that in recognising UEC, the effect on the status of the national language and national unity should be considered, as it may result in misunderstanding towards Chinese independent high schools and the UEC.

Chai said DAP ministers should also ensure that the 10+6 Chinese primary schools (SJKCs) construction plan, can be completed in the initially selected locations.

"If the Pakatan government believes that Penang, Selangor and Melaka need new SJKCs, they could actually approve the construction of these schools," he said.

Chai, who is also MCA deputy national organising secretary, said ministers should also rectify Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's "rich Chinese" claims, and ensure that the Pakatan Government is fair in its administration.

On the National Civics Bureau (BTN), he said that the Government's move to retain it has violated Pakatan Harapan's election manifesto.

He said the views of DAP Iskandar Puteri MP Lim Kit Siang should be brought to the Cabinet for discussion. Lim had urged the Pakatan government to re-examine the issue involving BTN.

On the crackdown against illegal workers, Chai said the Cabinet should listen to the grouses of employers, especially those from the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).

"Avoid carrying out aggressive crackdown operations, which will hit the country's economy," he added.

In response to the criticism by DAP Socialist Youth (Dapsy) chairman Wong Kah Woh over the lack of Cabinet appointments for the party, Chai said DAP should voice this out in Cabinet.
