PUTRAJAYA: Civil servants must not abuse their authority for self-interest but should use their power to serve the people and bring progress to the nation, said Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
The Prime Minister said as administrators, civil servants are in the position to see that the country's aspirations materialise.
"The power is not make ourselves, our family or friends wealthy and rich," he reminded staff of the Prime Minister's Department during the monthly gathering on Monday (July 9).
Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and newly appointed ministers and deputy ministers in the Prime Minister's Department.
Dr Mahathir reminded civil servants to have good values as these positive traits were needed to drive the country towards success.
"We must take a page from developed nations. They are hardworking, disciplined and willing to acquire new knowledge," he added.
Dr Mahathir said the desire to succeed must not just be a dream but must come with the willingness to work for it.
