PETALING JAYA: AirAsia presented a cheque for RM300,300 to the National Cancer Council of Malaysia (Makna) to champion cancer awareness and support underprivileged cancer fighters through its campaign #AirAsiaMAKNA.
The fund raising event was made possible through the sale of limited edition pilot and cabin crew T-shirt designs, and the cheque was presented to Makna at the '#AirAsiaMAKNA: The Big Fight Fiesta' event on Sunday (July 8).
AirAsia's BIG loyalty programme also presented two million AirAsia BIG points to Makna to further assist cancer patients by providing air travel.
"Cancer is a worldwide disease that affects anyone directly or indirectly. At AirAsia itself, we have many passionate cancer survivor Allstars (AirAsia employees) who never cease to inspire us with their tenacity and positivity," said AirAsia Malaysia chief executive officer Riad Asmat.
"We knew that something has to be done to also help those going through the big C in the communities we serve in," he said.
Makna general manager Farahida Mohd Farid thanked AirAsia for continuing to support the organisation for the third year.
"This campaign isn't about money. Initiatives like these go beyond that. Our alliance with AirAsia ultimately translates into saving lives and making a positive impact among cancer patients," she said.
Visitors to the '#AirAsiaMAKNA: The Big Fight Fiesta' event were serenaded by local artists SonaOne, Alif Satar and Ismail Izzani.
The event also organised medical examinations, cancer exhibitions, health talks, plus sampling and sale of health products.
As a token of appreciation for the public's support towards the campaign, AirAsia is offering a 20% discount on all flights (terms and conditions apply) for bookings made via the AirAsia mobile app using the promotional code MAKNA20.
Bookings are available from July 8 to July 10, 2018 for the travel period between Aug 1 to Nov 22, 2018.
In August, AirAsia will continue as the official airline partner of Makna for the 'Klimb Kinabalu 2018' expedition, where a total of 20 climbers including four AirAsia Allstars will conquer Mount Kinabalu to further raise funds and build more cancer awareness.
