PETALING JAYA: Sungai Kandis assemblyman Mat Shuhaimie Shafie, who was formerly the political secretary to Datuk Seri Azmin Ali when he was Selangor Mentri Besar, passed away Monday morning, having succumbed to lymphoma cancer.

The PKR stalwart breathed his last at 11.10am at the Subang Jaya Medical Centre according to Selangor Mentri Besar Amirudin Shari’s political secretary Borhan Aman Shah.

Shuhaimie, 50, reportedly has been ill over the last year and even missed the Selangor State Legislative Assembly swearing-in ceremony last week.

His remains will be brought to the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah mosque, Shah Alam for the last rites before he is laid to rest at the Section 21 Cemetery there after asar (evening) prayers.

Azmin, who is now Economic Affairs Minister, posted his condolences on his Facebook page, as did other Pakatan Harapan leaders.

Describing him as a close friend, Amirudin said Shuhaimie’s demise was a great loss to the state and PKR.

“He was a very dedicated assemblyman who was responsible and loved by the people and his friends.

“Shuhaimie’s contributions to the state and party are priceless,” added the newly sworn-in Mentri Besar.

Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin said Shuhaimie was always concerned with the plight of the people and served really well as an assemblyman.
