PETALING JAYA: Astro has clarified that it is not a government-linked company (GLC), and that none of its executives are political appointees.
"None of Astro's executives are either government or political appointees," it said in a statement on Sunday.
"Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd (Astro) does not qualify as a government-linked, state-owned or state-linked company. It is not a GLC.
"The implication that Astro is a GLC, and that its executives are political appointees are both factually incorrect," it said.
Astro's statement comes in view of news articles linking the resignation of Astro Group chief executive officer Datuk Rohana Rozhan to the recent spate of resignations from GLCs and government agency heads.
Astro said that Rohana is a professional accountant and manager, with an "impeccable track record" and "a distinguished career".
"She has served the company since inception for 23 years, is not and has never been a government or political appointee in Astro or any other company," it said.
Rohana rose through the ranks to become Astro CEO in 2006, and Group CEO in 2011.
"Astro made clear in its announcement of June 7, 2018 that Rohana's resignation is part of its succession plan," it said.
Astro said that the announcement was planned to coincide with the company's Annual General Meeting that was held on the same day.
Rohana will remain as Astro's Group CEO till Jan 31, 2019 to ensure a smooth and orderly leadership transition.
"Rohana will continue to remain as a board member thereafter," said Astro.
