PEKAN: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has questioned the move to freeze Umno accounts in the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) investigations.
The Pekan MP said if individuals were found to be involved, then the 1MDB task force should have frozen their accounts instead of Umno's.
"Umno is not guilty. If an individual is guilty, take action against them. Don't do it to the party.
"Umno has to function. We have responsibilities and duties. We have to run our divisions," Najib said at the opening of the Pekan Umno meeting here Saturday (June 30).
The task force confirmed on Friday (June 29) that it has frozen several bank accounts of individuals and organisations, including that of Umno and other political parties.
It believes the individuals and organisations were involved in misappropriation of 1MDB funds.
It was reported that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has frozen about 900 accounts traced to that of 1MDB. Umno's main account was one of those frozen.
