KOTA BARU: Retired Kelantan Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism director Datuk Ab Ghani Harun won the Pasir Mas Umno division chief post unopposed when his sole contender pulled out of the race.

Ab Ghani ventured into politics soon after his retirement on May 31 this year.

His contender, former Pasir Mas vice chief Che Johan Che Pa, announced his decision to pull out of the race for the top post in a speech during the Pasir Mas division meeting on Saturday.

Former division chief Datuk Hanafi Mamat, who is also the state Umno liaison committee secretary, did not seek re-election.

So far, six incumbent division chiefs were returned unopposed, and one won unopposed.

The incumbent division chiefs who were returned unopposed are Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah (Gua Musang), Tan Sri Mohamad Fatmi Che Salleh (Kota Bharu division), Tan Sri Annuar Musa (Ketereh), Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed (Jeli), Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub (Machang) and Mohamed Zulkepli Omar (Kuala Krai).
