Pupils learning traditional dances

MARUDI, 25 Jun -- Murid Tahun Enam Sekolah Kebangsaan Long Pillah, Semuel Emang mempersembahkan tarian masyarakat Orang Ulu.Selain tarian Zapin Johor, murid Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Long Pillah juga mahir tarian tradisi masyarakat Sarawak seperti Orang Ulu, Bidayuh dan Iban.Sejak 2013, Cikgu Mohamad Syukri bersama Cikgu Anthony Abas sudah membelanjakan kira-kira RM15,000 duit poket sendiri untuk menyediakan pakaian, aksesori, prop dan keperluan Kumpulan Ritma Tari bimbingan mereka itu dalam proses belajar seni tarian tradisi masyarakat di negara ini-- fotoBERNAMA (2018) HAK CIPTA TERPELIHARA

MARUDI: Year Six pupil Semuel Emang, decked in his traditional costume, performing an Orang Ulu dance here.

The SK Long Pillah pupil is among a group of schoolchildren being taught the traditional dance of different tribes in Sarawak such as Bidayuh, Iban and Orang Ulu.

The students can also perform the zapin, a traditional dance from Johor.

Teachers Mohamad Syukri and Anthony Abas have spent about RM15,000 of their own money to buy the costumes and props for the ritual dance troupe. — Bernama

Muhyiddin: Jamal likely to be hiding in Indonesia

KUALA LUMPUR: Fugitive Umno leader Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos is believed to be in Indonesia, said Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

The Home Minister said police had identified his whereabouts and were coordinating with the Indonesian authorities.

“Our priority is to detain him and bring him back to Malaysia,” he told a press conference after attending the Bukit Aman Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house yesterday.

Jamal has been on the run since May 25 – before his bail documentation was completed – after he pleaded not guilty to a charge of causing public nuisance.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Mazlan Mansor had said they would keep an eye out for him at the Umno polls, but Jamal was nowhere to be seen at the Putra World Trade Centre last weekend.

Man pleads not guilty to owning IS-related items

KUALA LUMPUR: An unemployed man pleaded not guilty in the High Court here to three counts of possessing items related to the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group.

Muhamad Sani Mahdi Sahar, 25, made the plea before judge Datuk Azman Abdullah yesterday.

He was charged with possession of five shirts and other items related to terrorism at the entrance to Block 3, Apartment Desa Mentari, and at a unit at B3-14-23, Apartment Desa Mentari, Jalan PJS 5/12, Petaling Jaya, between 5.15pm and 5.30pm on Dec 23, 2017.

All charges were under Section 130JB(1)(a) of the Penal Code, which pro­vides for seven years’ jail or fine, and forfeiture of the items, if found guilty.

The court set July 13 for mention.
