67 held over Macau Scam in shophouse raid
JOHOR BARU: Police detained 67 Chinese nationals over a Macau Scam following a raid at a shophouse here.
State police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd said this was the first time that a syndicate had been found operating from a shop office.
In previous cases, the activity was conducted from houses.
“The syndicate is making Malaysia its operating base but targeting victims in China,” said Mohd Khalil.
Of the 67 picked up at 11.30am on June 22, eight were women. They were aged between 19 and 38.
Comm Mohd Khalil said police also seized 100 units of computers, four laptops, six WiFi routers, 71 mobile phones, two units of local area network switchport and related documents.
“We believe they were also involved in online betting,” he said.
Macau Scam uses the Voice over Internet Protocol technology to replicate the phone numbers of enforcement agencies to cheat unsuspecting victims of money.
Two cops charged with robbing man
KUALA LUMPUR: Two policemen pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here to committing gang robbery and fleeing with RM239,000 from a condominium last year.
Insp Raja Zulkhairi Raja Omar, 34, and Kpl Johari Zambari, 37, were jointly charged with committing the offence on Ahmad Kamil Suratin, 32, and robbing him of RM239,000 at the Three28 Condominium in Jalan Tun Razak here at 11.45am on Aug 2, 2017.
The court set bail at RM6,000 in one surety each and fixed July 19 for mention, according to Bernama.
Kelantan govt to help plant seed for food security
KOTA BARU: Kelantan welcomes private initiatives promoting food security for the state and nation.
Kelantan Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob said the state government was willing to provide the platform for private entities to initiate such programmes.
“We want Kelantan to be self-sustainable in food production and agro-based products.
“It will also help to reduce the nation’s dependence on imported food products,” he said at the launch of the Agro Entrepreneur Incubation programme at a hotel on Sunday.
Ahmad also thanked Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V for opening the event.
Ladang Sawitria (Kel) Sdn Bhd and TSMH Development Sdn Bhd initiated the programme on a 9ha piece of land that was leased from the Kelantan Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council in Mambong, Kuala Krai.
Drive-by shooting at Bukit Bintang nightclub
KUALA LUMPUR: Police are investigating a drive-by shooting outside a nightclub in busy Bukit Bintang here.
City CID chief Senior Asst Comm Rusdi Md Isa said police found at least 25 bullet casings at a parking lot located about 30m from the entrance to the nightclub.
“The suspects, believed to be on a motorcycle, fired multiple shots at the club’s entrance,” he said of the incident that occurred at around 10.50pm on Sunday.
“Four workers were outside the premises during the incident,” said SAC Rusdi.
Newborn survives being flung out of bus terminal
KAJANG: A newborn survived after he was flung from the second floor of a building in Jalan Hentian 4, of the Kajang bus terminal.
An owner of a nearby restaurant found the baby lying in the middle of the road at about 5pm on Sunday.
Kajang deputy OCPD Supt Mohd Sabri Abdullah said the man found the baby after hearing a loud bang.
“He quickly wrapped the baby in a piece of cloth and took him to a nearby clinic.
“The infant was then transferred to Kajang Hospital. He is still in critical condition,” Supt Mohd Sabri said.
Police arrested a foreign woman.
DCM: Tourists need to be aware of our culture
KOTA KINABALU: A cyclist was killed when his bike collided with a car near the Taman Khidmat junction along Jalan Lintas here.
Jazlan Atah Abdullah, 59, from Banggi, Kudat, was killed on the spot.
Kota Kinabalu police chief Asst Comm M. Chandra said the accident occurred at about 10.15pm on Sunday.
The 24-year-old car driver escaped unhurt.
The case has been classified as reckless driving under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
