KUCHING: Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg says it is up to Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Pribumi) if it decides to spread its wings to the state.
"If Tun (Dr Mahathir Mohamad) wants to expand here, that is his party's decision. We also have other parties that have branches in Sarawak.
"But from Sarawak's point of view, we will work together (with the Federal Government) in the context of Sarawak-based parties," he told reporters when met after attending Tanjung Datu assemblyman Puan Sri Jamilah Anu's Raya open house here on Monday (June 25) night.
Abang Johari was responding to Dr Mahathir's comments that Pribumi was considering setting up branches in Sarawak.
"We might go to Sarawak. That is because Pakatan Harapan parties are already in Sarawak, except Pribumi," Dr Mahathir told a press conference at Pribumi's headquarters earlier on Monday (June 25).
Abang Johari said Dr Mahathir did not mention expanding Pribumi to Sarawak during a gathering with Sarawak and Sabah leaders at Seri Perdana on Sunday (June 24) evening.
"It was a Raya gathering. We talked about food," he said jokingly.
Asked if Pribumi's entry into Sarawak would split the local Malay community, Abang Johari said it was too early to comment on the matter.
"Let us wait as we don't know any details," he said.
