Man nabbed after gun was found in his car
JOHOR BARU: A 39-year-old man was arrested at Taman Pelangi after a gun was found in his car.
Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Shahurinain Jais said police intercepted a car at about 12.30am yesterday after they spotted the driver behaving in a suspicious manner.
“Upon inspection, a revolver with four bullets were found in a bag in the dashboard.
“Background checks showed that he has 10 criminal records involving robbery and drugs,” he said, adding that the suspect was also wanted for two drug related cases.
Man arrested over death of seven-year-old girl
JOHOR BARU: A 35-year-old man from Felda Papan Timur was picked up to assist investigations into the death of a seven-year-old girl.
Nuraqira Khaleefa Muhammad Saad died on Monday due to severe head injuries, believed to have been caused by a firecracker explosion.
On June 14, she was found lying motionless on her house lawn with blood on her head.
Her father Muhammad Saad Yusof said she underwent a six-hour operation but died without regaining consciousness some four days later.
Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Ashmon Bajah said acting on information, police detained a suspect at about 1.30pm yesterday and remanded him for a week to assist in the case.
Cops nab man for having guns in his house
LAHAD DATU: A 50-year-old man who had a ‘Bakakuk’ (homemade shotgun) and an air rifle was detained by police.
Bakakuk is typically used for hunting wild animals by local natives.
Acting district police chief Asst Supt Mohd Fadzil Ali said the man was arrested at about 1.30am on Wednesday in Sungai Bilis Tanjung Labian, near here.
ASP Mohd Fadzil said acting on a tip-off, a police team raided the unmarked house and found the two weapons inside.
Rahang rep’s service centre broken into
SEREMBAN: The service centre of Rahang assemblyman Mary Josephine Prittam Singh was broken into with more than RM3,000 stolen, besides other items.
Josephine, who is a second-term DAP assemblyman, said a staff member found the grilles on the ground and first floor cut open when she reported for work at 9am yesterday.
“Almost all the money stolen were paid by new members for a new branch in Rahang.
“There was also some petty cash, a brand new portable microphone system, as well as speakers and a camera missing,” she said.
Josephine said several window panes at the rear of her office had also been removed.
“We believe the intruder or intruders came in from the front entrance because the grilles were cut from the outside and escaped through the window,” she said.
